Welcome to DOpus PLUS!
The Essential Companion to Opus Magellan II!

Introduction [Setup-Install] [Contents of the CD] [Copyrights] [Thanks]

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the DOpus PLUS collection and for supporting our efforts on the Amiga with Directory Opus Magellan!

This collection of tutorials, ARexx scripts, icons, images, sounds and associated support files and utilities for Opus Magellan has been produced by GPSoftware from material custom written for this CD by some of the leading DOpus experts in the world. We have also incorporated collections of other material kindly supplied by many Opus users from around the world over the last few years.

The tutorials may be accessed in a stand-alone manner directly from the CD by double-clicking on the appropriate icon. To make best use of the collection you will need to have Directory Opus Magellan II (version 5.8 or higher).

This tutorial has been designed for different screen resolutions. You may view the tutorial either in Fixed or Scalable proportions. For quick access to the tutorial, click either:-

How to install and run the Tutorial

Before you begin accessing this CD, you should read these instructions.

The Opus Tutorial on this CD is HTML-based, and as such requires a web browser to access it (note that you do not actually need access to the Internet, as a web browser can also access local files).

If you do not have a web browser installed already (the three most common are AWeb, IBrowse and Voyager), you may like to install one from this CD. The Tools/Browsers directory on this CD contains demo versions of these three browsers which you can install using the supplied install scripts. If you do want or need to install a web browser we suggest you go and install it now, and then come back and read on...

You can also run the Tutorial direct from the CD. In this case, the Tutorial defaults to using the demo version of IBrowse.

If, however, you already have a web browser installed, you will probably want to use it instead of installing another one. The supplied install script (Install_DOpusPLUS, found in the root directory of this CD) lets you choose whichever browser you want to use.

To use this tutorial and also the DOpus Magellan themes on this CD, you will need to install various Amiga datatypes such as jpeg, gif, png, bmp, wav etc. If you do not already have these installed we have provided a set for your convenience in the Datatypes drawer in the Tools directory of the CD. Install these or see AmiNet util/dtype for newer or related datatypes.

After you have installed a browser (if applicable), run the Install_DOpusPLUS installer script. This script will ask you to either locate the browser you want to use (either one you already had installed, or the one you just installed), or to choose to run the Tutorial using the IBrowse demo on the CD.

The Install script creates a DOpusPLUS sub-directory in your DOpus5: folder and copies the Tutorial icon there with the default tool set to your chosen browser. From now on, you can access the Tutorial simply by double-clicking on this icon. The installer also creates a DOpus Program Group containing the icon for quick access to the tutorial.

Other contents of the CD...

Apart from the Tutorial, this CD contains many other interesting and useful Opus things. The CD is split up into different directories; a brief description follows.

  • Enhancements - Contains plug-in modules, ARexx scripts and programs that enhance Directory Opus itself by adding new functionality. Note that most of these require Opus Magellan II.
  • Tools - Contains third-party software utilities that we have found to be useful in day-to-day Amiga use, including a collection of Datatypes, Archivers, Web Browsers, and a free version of Cloanto PPaint.
  • SDK - For the programming gurus among you, the SDK directory will prove invaluable. Contains documentation on low-level Opus programming, including include files and autodocs for the dopus5.library.
  • Themes - One of the most popular new features of Magellan II is the ability to instantly transform your desktop with Themes. Here is a collection of over 150 themes for you to try out!
  • Icons - A huge collection of icons which you can use for your Opus toolbars, start menus and button banks, as well as beautiful program and file icon sets (we particularly recommend GlowIcons!)
  • Images - For light relief, lots of scanned images of Amiga shows and personalities.
  • AmiNet - The entire contents of the /biz/dopus directory from AmiNet. If you're looking for an Opus-related file, the odds are it's in here.
